20 September — State Sovereignty Day of the Republic of Azerbaijan - FChain
20 September holds a special place in the modern history of the Republic of Azerbaijan as a day associated with the restoration of the country’s full state sovereignty. By a Presidential Order dated 19 September 2024, 20 September was officially established as the State Sovereignty Day of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The date reflects a significant stage in the restoration of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and state sovereignty. Following the events of September 2023, Azerbaijan’s state sovereignty and constitutional order were fully restored throughout the country.
State sovereignty represents more than territorial control. It reflects a country’s ability to govern its territory, uphold its laws and institutions, and make decisions independently. For Azerbaijan, 20 September has therefore become a date that connects the country’s recent history with the broader values of independence, statehood and national unity.
The Day of State Sovereignty is also an opportunity to reflect on the importance of preserving peace, strengthening institutions and building a stable future. It remains a significant date in Azerbaijan’s contemporary history and a reminder of the value of sovereignty and independent statehood.
