Financial Chain Corporation Presents: Rules for Calculating Salary During Business Trips - FChain

1. Definition and Maximum Duration of a Business Trip

According to the Ministry of Finance’s “Rules on Employee Business Trips” (Order No. Q-01 dated January 18, 2012), a business trip (“ezamiyyə”) occurs when an employee is sent away from their regular workplace to perform a specific assignment. The trip’s duration is determined by an order from management, but excluding travel time, it may not exceed 40 days.

2. Principle of Salary Preservation

In accordance with Article 179 of the Labor Code, when an employee is dispatched on a domestic or international business trip, their position and average salary are preserved.

3. Method for Calculating the Average Daily Salary

Per Article 177(2) of the Labor Code:

  1. Calculate the employee’s total earnings for the two most recent calendar months.
  2. Divide that total by the number of working days in those same two months to determine the average daily salary.
  3. Multiply the average daily salary by the number of business-trip days to arrive at the amount payable for the trip.

4. Calculation Example

Suppose that in December 2024, an organization sends an employee on a 5-day domestic business trip. The employee’s monthly salary was AZN 800 in both October and November, and December has 20 working days, of which 5 are designated as business-trip days.

  1. Average Daily Salary
    • Total earnings for October and November:
      AZN 800 + AZN 800 = AZN 1,600
    • Total working days in October and November:
      23 days + 19 days = 42 days
    • Average daily salary:
      AZN 1,600 ÷ 42 ≈ AZN 38.10
  2. Payment for Business-Trip Days
    AZN 38.10 × 5 days = AZN 190.50
  3. Payment for Non–Business-Trip Days in December
    • Daily rate in December:
      AZN 800 ÷ 20 days = AZN 40.00
    • Number of non–trip days:
      20 – 5 = 15 days
    • Total for non–trip days:
      15 days × AZN 40.00 = AZN 600.00
  4. Total Salary for December
    AZN 190.50 + AZN 600.00 = AZN 790.50

Result: In December, the employee’s total salary will be AZN 790.50.
